Did you know that a current quadcore cpu has more than 820 million transistors?
The conference on Strategies for Embedded Computing Research took place in Vienna on March 18 & 19, 2010.
More information (agenda, speakers, etc.) can be found here!

The COSINE2 Wiki provides a platform for gathering the opinion of the community with respect to their own research agenda.
The following two areas are currently covered:
- Presenting best practice in the ES research funding
- Exposing national funding organizations and their funding measures
The COSINE2 Wiki can be reached by using the following URL: http://artemiswiki.wiki-site.com

ARTEMISIA
Artemisia is the Artemis Industrial Association which represents the research commmunity including Industry (large, small and medium sized companies), universities and research institutes.
The Artemis JU is an organisation based in Brussels that was legally established in February 2008 and it is managed by an Executive Director.
Artemis aims to tackle the research and structural challenges faced by the industrial sector. The objective is to define and implement a Research Agenda for Embedded Computing Systems.
The Artemis JU will manage and co-ordinate research activities through open calls for proposals through a 10-year €2.5 billion research programme on Embedded Computing Systems.
More information can be found on www.artemisia-association.eu.
ARTEMISIA - SRA
A two-tier approach is taken:
on the one hand the SRA should address the R&D challenges that will allow Europe to compete effectively in the future markets of ambient intelligence and to realise a number of visionary applications in the interest of society at large;
on the other hand, the SRA will address structural weaknesses and obstacles, such as openness of middleware and standards, fragmentation of research, or the development of a state-of-the-art research infrastructure.
The SRA will be also aligned to major European policies on competitiveness (notably the Lisbon agenda), sustainable development, transport and eEurope.

Seventh Framework Programme (FP7)
The FP7 bundles all research-related EU initiatives together under a common roof playing a crucial role in reaching the goals of growth, competitiveness and employment; along with a new Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme (CIP), Education and Training programmes, and Structural and Cohesion Funds for regional convergence and competitiveness. It is also a key pillar for the European Research Area (ERA).
Information on FP7 ES activities can be found here.
The FP7 ICT section can be found on cordis.
European Research Area (ERA)
The idea of a European Research Area grew out of the realisation that research in Europe suffers from three weaknesses: insufficient funding, lack of an environment to stimulate research and exploit results, and the fragmented nature of activities and the dispersal of resources.
The European Research Area initiative combines three concepts:

Embedded Systems Australia (ESA)
Embedded Systems Australia is a horizontally aligned, project-based national industry cluster. ESA is interested in developing embedded systems technologies and marketing smart products to global supply chains.
The activities span the complete product life cycle of embedded systems development and deployment. These include Design: electronics, software, computer aided design and methodologies; Manufacturing & systems integration to create competitive smart products for vertical applications; and Marketing, sales and support of embedded systems product development.
More information can be found on www.embeddedsystemsaustralia.com.au.
Extra-EU activities
COSINE(1) the predecessor of COSINE2 looked into Embedded Systems policies and programmes outside Europe (USA, Korea, Japan, etc.).
More information can be found here.
Embedded.com
A companion to magazine and the Embedded Systems Conferences, Embedded.com is a global source for embedded designers and technical managers who are responsible for defining systems, selecting the critical hardware and software components, building the systems, and integrating the hardware and firmware designs.
The site and the weekly Embedded.com Newsletter provide practical design techniques, new product updates, how-to technical features, and weekly columns and polls.
Embedded.com is the most visited site on the web for technical information and news on embedded design.
